  • Kids are SPONGES

“I’m cold, I’m naked, I need some clothes to weh-eh-eh-er” — I made up this silly song for my niece last year when she was visiting.  I just started chanting it to her after she had taken a shower and while she was getting dressed.  We’d sing it over and over again and really drag out that last bit “wehhhh ehhh ehhhhhh errrr”….

Then while we were in so-cal last month for my cousin Dan’s wedding (gorgeous wedding by the way, completely personal and totally sweet) she started singing it at dim sum and I had barely remembered it (although this shouldn’t come to much of a surprise to those who are familiar with how dim my memory is)  I just felt like an awful auntie for having forgotten our little moment and a little shocked that it had stayed in her memory bank.

Then just now I find out from Candice that while Jenna was visiting Seattle earlier this month she started singing the song in Target!  Kids are SPONGES!!!!!  Be careful what you say to them!  Freaky lil’ ones.

Congratulations to Super Mom Tokhui (and Fernie) on their baby girl Ines .. can’t wait to meet you!  I shall teach you silly songs soon enough!  But you’ll have to wait until after the 6-month mark.  Babies before the 6-month mark are just way too fragile with that wobbly neck and the dangerous tendency of sliding right off you.  See you in 6 months :)

  • How Computer Arrows Really Work

The mystery is solved: How does the small arrow in the screen of the computer work when we move the mouse?  Haven’t you ever wondered how it works?  Now, through the miracle of the high technology, we can see how it is done.   With the aid of a screen magnifying lens the mechanism becomes apparent.

Go to http://www.1-click.jp/ and move your mouse around…

  • my hip mom

    slippers

so my mom has these fuzzy slippers (the one on the bottom) but in navy blue and she showed me the other day how she went to great lengths to get soles added to the bottom of her slippers so she could wear them out of the house.  not just the cheap soles but high quality soles for walkin’

she usually pairs the shoes with some leggings, making sure the leggings tuck nicely into her slippers.  my mom is always coming up with quirky little things like this so i didn’t think much of it, just chalked it up to another mom-thing.. they look sort of like mini-uggs but they definately make you look twice because you probably have a pair of these sitting up in your bedroom.

so i’m reading the fashion section of the new york times and i come across this bit: “a microfad recently noted among privileged young women in elite
neighborhoods of the Upper East Side, the wearing of bedroom slippers
on the streets…. a pair of fuzzy suede moccasin-style slippers, the sort lined with shearling and with a roll of fur turned down on each side.”

haha! i almost fell over.. my too-hip-for-me mom… setting her own trends.  i love it!

i feel so behind on my very long mental to-do list.. maybe it’s a symptom of the holiday season.. i can’t keep up!  and can someone please come over and clean up my home?  my parents are moving in with me in january while they fix up their condo for me but i need to make some space for them!  gotta simplify my life yo.  somewhere in the mess that is my home lies basil’s camera.. that’s how bad it is, where that sucka be?!?

but fun things are coming up.. going to my first warriors game next thursday against houston.. yao!  and a day up in napa with b.  girls night out in sf.. sushi and witnessing ajung consume an unsightly number of oysters.  happy holidays!

  • gap-toothed

i have now joined the ranks of lauren hutton, madonna and dan wong..  i’m gap-toothed!  my invisalign orthodontist shaved a space between my two front teeth and carved spaces around two others.  he tells me i need to start carrying floss around because food will probably get stuck in there.  so not cute.  but hopefully soon i will have smooth straight teeth!  i’m practicing smiling with my mouth closed.

boo to a big tongue that doesn’t fit in my small mouth and causes me to press against my teeth creating this need for invisalign. but yay mom for connections and hooking me up with free invisalign!  aw yeah.  man, this better work.

  • so, remember how i made the big announcement about my new job?  that was about 2 months ago… well, i received the official papers saturday and i have 2 more weeks to play!
it was a nice lil’ lesson in patience and having faith that all would work out in the end, whether the job would end up being mine or not…

on another note, me and Basil celebrated our 6 month anniversary this weekend.. kayaking, adventures along the beach.. “what was that?  a frog??” and then shucking our own oysters at Drake’s Oyster Farm.  pretty scenic pics and a much more in-depth explanation are here…  it was all SO MUCH FUN!  and thanks babe for the new palm pilot… i’ve already spent 1.5 hours playing around with it and i’m still fascinated..  no more hauling around multiples scraps of paper with “important” notes written on them and maybe i’ll finally remember my gramma’s birthday..

time to go back to my very busy lazy day….
